Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra Welcomes the 2009-2010 Season

 

 

Folsom, California, September 1, 2009 – The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra welcomes its 2009-2010 season, under the exciting direction of Maestro Michael Neumann. In its sixth full season, the symphony has planned spectacular and beautiful concert experiences that are sure to please, along with some new features especially designed for our patrons.

Season tickets are now available by logging on to www.folsomsyphony.com or by calling the ticket line at 916-983-4277. Individual tickets will be available beginning September 1, 2009.

Kicking off this special season will be the annual Folsom Lake Symphony “Pre-Season Social” on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at American Visions Gallery located at 718 Sutter Street in Historic Folsom, California. Tickets are not required ahead; check in at the door and enjoy hors d'œuvre, wine tasting and the company of Maestro Michael Neumann, musicians, board members and symphony friends. Contributions will be requested at the door to defray the cost of the event.

On Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 7:30 pm, Maestro Neumann has chosen to begin the concert season with “Music of Magic and Fantasy,” an exciting and fun filled evening of pieces including ‘Night on Bald Mountain’ (Mussorgsky), ‘Music from Phantom of the Opera’ (Andrew Lloyd Weber), ‘Danse Macabre’ (Saint-Saens), ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ from Peer Gynt (Grieg), Toccata and Fugue’ (J. S. Bach), ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ (John Williams) and ‘Sabre Dance’ (Khachaturian). For this evening, concert-goers and musicians are invited to dress in costume, and to come expecting an evening of surprise and delight!

December 2009 will bring two Holiday performances, “Season of Joy!” featuring the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra presenting Gabrieli’s ‘Canzonas for Brass,’ J.S. Bach’s “In Dulci Jublio,’ Pachelbel’s  famous ‘Canon,’ along with ‘Winter Wonderland’ by Custer, ‘Sleigh Ride’ by Leroy Anderson, ‘Let it Snow’ by Style and Sayre, and the beautiful Vivaldi ‘Concerto for Four Violins in b minor.’ Soloists for the concerto will be Anita Felix and Alex Robul of the Folsom Lake Symphony, and Ray Anthony Trujillo and Drew Cylinder of the Sacramento Youth Symphony Premier Orchestra.

In the second half of the December concert, the orchestra will perform selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet with guest artists from the Folsom Civic Ballet and Adrianne Dellorco. This will create the program for the Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances on December 19 and 20, 2009.

On Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 7:30 pm, Maestro Neumann and the symphony will present, “Love Stories” in a second annual pops concert event. “Last year’s Valentine’s concert was a wonderful success, and our patrons have asked for another evening as lovely as this,” states Carol A. Hoge, Executive Director of the Folsom Lake Symphony. Included in the evening will be “Tara’s Theme’ from “Gone with the Wind” by Max Steiner, selections from “Sleeping Beauty” by Tchaikovsky, ‘Claire de lune’ by DeBussy, and ‘Romanza’ for viola and orchestra by Max Bruch featuring Jeron Chamberlin, viola soloist. Also presented this evening will be ‘Theme from “A Summer Place”’ by Steiner, ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’ from “The Mission” by Ennio Morricone, selections from the broadway musical “Miss Saigon” by C. M. Schonberg, and the ‘Lawrence of Arabia Suite’ by Maurice Jarre. It will be an evening to remember.

In the spring, on Saturday, April 3, 2010, the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will present “Great Gifts” with Beethoven’s “Concerto for Violin in D Major, op. 61” with guest artist Corina Stoian, “Joyeuse Marche” by Emmanuel Chabrier, the “Russian Easter Overture, op.36” by Rimsky-Korsakov and the “Capriccio Espagnole, op. 34” by the same composer.

“Enchanted Isles” will complete the season in the Jill Solberg Performing Arts Theater with Carl Maria von Weber’s “Oberon Overture,” the Concerto for Flute in e minor” by Saverio Mercadante with Alice Lenaghan, flute solist, and Felix Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 3, op. 56 in a minor (‘Scotch’).” The performance date for “Enchanted Isles” will be Friday, May 14, 2010.

Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra Announces Its May 23, 2009 Concert,  “Great Treasures From the Opera”

Folsom, California, May 4, 2009 –
The Folsom Lake Symphony announces its final concert of the 2008-2009 season, “Great Treasures From the Opera,” under the direction of artistic director and conductor Michael Neumann. On Saturday, May 23, 2009, Maestro Neumann will lead the orchestra in its presentation of famous pieces from the world of opera, with guest soloists Maureen Mette, soprano, Brielle Morgan, mezzo-soprano, Jaeho Lee, tenor, and Stephen Janzen, baritone. The evening will feature arias, orchestral and ensemble works by Puccini, Gounod, Verdi, Rossini and Massenet among others, and will include pieces from “La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie),” “La Boheme,”  “Faust,” “Aida,” “Madame Butterfly” and “Tosca.” Also included in the evening will be pieces from “Andrea Chenier,” “Le Cid,” “Turandot,” “Larkme,” “Werther,” and “Rigoletto.” “Designed for both lovers of opera and those unacquainted with it, this evening is destined to bring to our audience the magic, majesty and delight that only opera can,” states Carol A. Hoge, Executive Director of the Folsom Lake Symphony. “We are pleased to bring another great concert to our wonderful patrons at the close of our 2008-2009 seasons with the orchestra and Maestro Neumann.”

Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra Will Present its April Concert: The Grand Tour

Folsom, California, March 6, 2009 – 
  On Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 7:30 pm, Maestro Michael Neumann and the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will present Dvorak’s famous Symphony #9, “From the New World” at the Jill Solberg Theater for the Performing Arts at Folsom High School.  Featured also in this concert will be Mendelssohn’s Symphony #4 in A Major, “The Italian,” and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in G Major with soloist Natsuki Fukasawa. Pianist Natsuki Fukasawa's career has taken her around the world in the role of both soloist and chamber musician. As a founding member of the award-winning Jalina Trio, Natsuki has won many accolades and international prizes, including the 2004 Best Chamber Music Recording of the Year from the Danish Music Awards and a January 2006 rave review in Fanfare magazine. The reviewer wrote of the trio's recording of the Mendelssohn and Brahms piano trios:  "Never--and I mean never--have I heard either of these works played with such expressive nuance and exquisite, heartfelt sensitivity. When I am moved to tears of joy, I know I am hearing what music can and should be."  Natsuki collaborates regularly with many fine chamber musicians in Northern California and appears frequently in concerts.

Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra Announces  “Music of Romance and Passion”  A Special Valentine’s Pop’s Concert Folsom,

California, January 23, 2009 –
The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra announces a Special Valentine’s Evening Pops Concert under the direction of conductor Michael Neumann. On Saturday, February 14, 2009, Maestro Neumann will conduct the orchestra in “Music of Romance and Passion,” featuring famous pieces from movies and the world of popular music. “We are excited to present an evening of wonderful music, favorites that will delight all ages on this special night.” Included in the concert will be music from “Dr. Zhivago,” “West Side Story” and “The Sound of Music” as well as the theme from “Titanic,” “Meditation from Thais,” “East of Eden,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”  The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra has included this special concert in our season to provide an affordable, high quality musical offering to our community on this Valentine’s evening. Plans for the previously planned Vienna Gala have been put aside for this year, as the symphony stays true to its mission to provide accessible, high quality music to the region.

The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will present two holiday concerts in December 2008, full of exciting and beautiful music, celebrating the season in dance and in song. On Saturday December 20 and Sunday December 21, 2008 the symphony will be joined by the 80 voice Valley Choral Society under the direction of Mr. Paul Allen and by dancers from the Folsom Civic Ballet under the direction and choreographed by Ms. Deirdre Hawkins. These performances will thrill concert-goers of all ages, as Maestro Michael Neumann hosts an evening of holiday favorites. “With such wonderful musical offerings presented by our own Folsom Lake Symphony and friends, it’s easy to see staying close to home for the holidays, notes Carol A. Folsom Lake Symphony Announces its 5th Anniversary Season Folsom

California, September 5, 2008 – The Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra will celebrate its fifth season under the direction of conductor Michael Neumann with a  concerts series full of the high quality, spectacular music that the Folsom Region has grown to love. On Saturday, September 27, 2008, Maestro Neumann has chosen to lead off the season featuring Anita Felix, violinist, performing the “Bruch Violin Concerto in g minor”, with orchestra. Also on the program will be ” Bacchanale” from Samson and Dalila by Saint-Saens, “In the Steppes of Central Asia” by Borodin, and selections from “Romeo and Juliet” by Prokofiev.   “As always, Maestro has programmed passionate and great works to fill our evening and our senses.” states Bruce Woodbury, President of the board of directors and founder of the symphony. Mr. Woodbury returns to his position as President of the organization after a brief hiatus. The balance of this special season will bring two Holiday performances in December featuring the Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra with the Folsom Lake Civic Ballet and the Valley Choral Society. Selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet along with Holiday favorites will create the program for the Saturday evening and Sunday matinee performances on December 20 and 21, 2008.
